Zerene Stacker Beta Testing Downloads

Looking for an explanation of how our “beta channel” works? See HERE for an explanation.

Note: The Windows versions here are built using a new code-signing certificate, which has not yet been seen by enough computers to be fully trusted by the Microsoft Edge anti-malware system. To install on Windows, you may have to override Microsoft's default behavior of refusing to run unrecognized software.

If you have other security concerns about the beta installers, please see How To Validate A Download.

Current beta is:

  • Mac OS X: ZS-MacOSX-SA-T201711041830_beta.zip, downloads as an application bundle named ZereneStacker (.app).
This is the recommended bundle for modern Macs. It is self-contained and includes its own Java 8 runtime environment, which will be used with Mac OS X 10.7.3 and above. With older versions of Mac OS X, it will use whatever /usr/bin/java is already installed on the computer, but will not request installation of Java if none is currently available. This bundle requires 64-bit Mac OS X.
    Length 67,173,481 bytes
    MD5 checksum ea91e7ed857ddc800d9d81e638360f37
    SHA-1 checksum 6b5a5362d993ecb1236f996069980fb451e69448
  • Mac OS X (old): ZS-MacOSXold-SA-T201711041830_beta.zip, downloads as an application bundle named ZereneStacker (.app).
This bundle is not self-contained. It requires a Java runtime environment installed by Apple, and will prompt for installation of Java if one is not already installed. It runs as 64-bit where the processor and operating system support it, and as 32-bit otherwise.
    Length 8,529,406 bytes
    MD5 checksum 148d7b04e5cc31cec8c0e4ced1170c43
    SHA-1 checksum 1d45d53d9d35523c853757c5b4b90cddd24c9adf

Note: On Macintosh and Linux, if you already have Zerene Stacker installed and are downloading a new version to update it, then you need to manually move the old version to trash, and move or rename the new version to replace it. Otherwise both versions will continue to be available, and you will run whichever one you happen to click on. For further information, see the FAQS on “Installing and Updating”. On Mac, when trashing out the old version, do NOT allow any third party uninstaller or cleanup applications like “AppCleaner” to run. In their enthusiasm to eliminate files that they think are not used, they're likely to also delete files you really do need, like your license key and Zerene Stacker configuration files.

Compared to the previous T201708112041_beta, this T201711041830_beta contains the following improvements:

  • Added function “Re-order input files > “Sort by Scale”.
  • Updated Mac binaries to avoid deprecated libstdc++, side effect is that StackShotHelper now requires MacOS 10.9 or above in standard distribution.
  • User interface
    • Avoid redundant warning about existing file, when saving with native file chooser.
    • Batch dialog
      • Remove “Add Projects and Folders” button unless JFileChooser is used.
      • Diagnose and avoid adding individual image files to batch dialog.
    • Make splash screen, Options > Registration, and Console Log windows use same size font as the rest of the application.
    • Provide an automatic Restart button for changes to Look & Feel.
    • Use default font size even for high-res displays, with Windows & Mac native L&F's.
  • Installation option
    • License key can be located in application root directory.
  • Bug fixes:
    • Default file name was not showing in some saves with system native file chooser.
    • Directory selection was not working in some cases with system native file chooser.
    • File saving parameters could not be changed by using the accessory panel in a JFileChooser dialog.
    • In the StackShot controller step sizes panel, sometimes could not Save or Load using system native file chooser.
    • On Mac, diagnostic dialogs were occasionally hidden behind the Options > Preferences or Batch Control dialog windows.
    • DMap contrast threshold panel was too big sometimes.
  • Update embedded JRE to version 8u144 (jre1.8.0_144)

Compared to the current release T201706041920 and the corresponding T201706041920_beta, this beta contains the following improvements:

  • PMax: added feature to retain only the UDR image, not the normal PMax.
  • User interface
    • Allow arbitrarily narrow left panel in main window (input/output lists).
    • Reword tooltip for option “Retain extended dynamic range”.
  • MacOSX bundle: make all executables 64-bit.
  • Bug fixes:
    • Allow ”+“ character in all file paths.
    • Handle spurious /u2028 (Unicode “LINE SEPARATOR”) in license keys.
    • Mac, avoid hiding batch dialog while adding tasks.
    • Batch dialog, disable Paste button when not appropriate to press.
    • Avoid red popup message when selecting directory with native file chooser.
    • On Mac, physical memory “Detect” button sometimes could not be activated.
    • Revert to HTTP to avoid SSL certificate problems with old JREs.
    • Macintosh “Keep in Dock” menu entry would make an icon for java instead of Zerene Stacker.

Please immediately inform support@zerenesystems.com if you encounter any difficulties or odd behavior with this beta version. Be sure to send a console log if appropriate – instructions for that are provided HERE.
