Zerene Stacker Beta Testing Downloads

Looking for an explanation of how our “beta channel” works? See HERE for an explanation.

Note: Because these beta versions are downloaded relatively few times, they are sometimes not recognized as known good software by anti-malware packages. You may have to override your anti-malware's behavior of refusing to run unrecognized software.

Current beta is:

  • Mac OS X: ZS-MacOSX-SA-T2018-07-19-1515-beta.zip, downloads as an application bundle named ZereneStacker (.app).
    This is the recommended bundle for modern Macs. It is self-contained and includes its own Java 10 runtime environment, which will be used with Mac OS X 10.7.3 and above. With older versions of Mac OS X, it will use whatever /usr/bin/java is already installed on the computer, but will not request installation of Java if none is currently available. This bundle requires 64-bit Mac OS X.

  • Mac OS X (old): ZS-MacOSXold-SA-T2018-07-19-1515-beta.zip, downloads as an application bundle named ZereneStacker (.app).
    This bundle is not self-contained. It requires a Java runtime environment installed by Apple, and will prompt for installation of Java if one is not already installed. It runs as 64-bit where the processor and operating system support it, and as 32-bit otherwise.

Note: On Macintosh and Linux, if you already have Zerene Stacker installed and are downloading a new version to update it, then you need to manually move the old version to trash, and move or rename the new version to replace it. Otherwise both versions will continue to be available, and you will run whichever one you happen to click on. For further information, see the FAQS on “Installing and Updating”. On Mac, when trashing out the old version, do NOT allow any third party uninstaller or cleanup applications like “AppCleaner” to run. In their enthusiasm to eliminate files that they think are not used, they're likely to also delete files you really do need, like your license key and Zerene Stacker configuration files.

Compared to the earlier beta T201712172018_beta, this T2018-07-19-1515_beta contains the following improvements:

  • User Interface
    • Automatically scale font size in batch dialog Task Details panel.
    • Restrict image saving progress bar updates to typically 10% increments to provide faster saving on computers with slow GUI updates.
  • New Features
    • Use JRE 10 in 64-bit distributions.
    • Automatically adapt image displays for high DPI monitors if using JRE 10, so that 100% scale means 1 image pixel = 1 physical display pixel.
    • Added “Nearest Neighbor” interpolation method, to facilitate registration of test images.
    • Log the nominal HDPI scaling factor obtained from GraphicsConfiguration.
    • Added configuration file option “AlignmentControl.UseMaximumPrecisionRules=true” .
    • StackShot: added new hotkeys J and K to allow stepping backward and forward by Palette Gear knob.
    • StackShot: added new hotkey X to begin shooting stack.
    • Allow elliptical path for rocking.
    • Added action to explicitly export registration parameters to a tab-separated-values text file.
    • Added option to automatically maintain registration parameters in project as tab-separated-values file.
  • Bug fix:
    • On Mac, Save Output Image with native file chooser usually did not warn of impending over-writing.
    • Automatically retry if system native file chooser returns too quickly (typically because it did not appear at all).
    • Automatically revert to JFileChooser if system native file chooser does not work after retries.
    • Silently ignore null parameter settings, for example as sometimes produced by BugSlabber.
    • Allow certain formats of float-32 source images.
    • Explicitly report failure to write license key if a generic “uh-oh” dialog has appeared.
    • Make output naming tag {sourcefolder} play nice with Lightroom plugin.

Improvements in T2018-01-03-2045-beta

  • User Interface
    • Added keyboard accelerators for Stack Selected (PMax) and (DMap).
  • Performance analysis
    • Added configuration flag, Developer.TimestampPaintComponentCalls=true

Compared to the previous full release T201711041830 and the corresponding T201711041830_beta, this beta also contains the following improvements:

  • User Interface
    • Expanded diagnostic is provided when user attempts to add raw format image files.
    • Expanded diagnostic about using Alt/Option key if “s” does not work for flash-to-source.
    • Added new Options > Preferences checkbox to disable image zoom on spacebar+mousewheel.
    • Do not notify user of connectivity problems on automatic check for update.
    • Increase textfield widths in Options > Preferences so large numbers remain entirely visible.
    • Clarified what password is requested, to fix StackShot driver conflicts.
    • Fixed problems of StackShot control panel on high-dpi displays.
  • Lightroom plug-in
    • Require that Zerene Stacker application is placed in a stable location, not Downloads in macOS Sierra or above.
  • Bug fixes:
    • Avoid random null pointer exception when writing undo information to disk.
    • Avoid random null pointer exception on commit of retouching.
    • Avoid wrong dialog on top, when creating Lightroom plugin on Mac.
